What are the key components of Electric Bikes

All Electric Bikes share 3 main components:

 

  • Motor: Typically located in one of three areas—hub (front or rear), mid-drive (centre), or integrated into the bike's crankset. The motor helps the rider by providing extra power when pedalling.

  • Battery: The motor is powered by a rechargeable lithium-ion battery, which is usually mounted on the frame. Battery life and range vary based on the size of the battery, the terrain, and how much power is being used.

  • Controller: This is the interface (often a display or a set of buttons) where the rider can adjust the level of motor assistance, switch between different modes, or monitor battery life.

Other key features of electric bikes are pedal assist and throttles. Pedal assist (PAS) is where the motor helps as you pedal, with power increasing as you pedal harder.
